Manager @ AM

Job Description

You’ll be the main point of contact for our clients, there to answer any accounting questions they might have, and to provide friendly, valuable, and personalised support & advice. You’ll also plan and control the accounting work, including VAT, Payroll & Bookkeeping and coordinate this with our team of accountants and delivery partners. Proactively looking forward and not backwards, you’ll provide clients with current, up-to-date financial information and help them to plan for the future.

Person Spec

Are you an ambitious and open-minded individual who thinks differently? We’re looking for a qualified accountant and someone with at least two years industry experience to join the Ashton McGill team in Dundee on a full-time basis. You’ll be familiar with accounting software such as Xero and FreeAgent and understand the value they provide for small businesses. You’ll also be knowledgeable and interested in the technology market and the benefits that new innovations and Apps can provide for our clients.

We’re looking for someone with excellent organisation and people skills, with a great eye for detail. You should also be a good communicator, regularly keeping in touch with our clients, whilst understanding the importance of a human-centred approach to business. Our clients are innovators and enterprising business owners who do things differently, so we’re also looking for someone who understands entrepreneurship and the process of designing, running and launching a new business.

Accounting and design don’t usually go hand-in-hand, so we understand if you don’t know a great deal about design-thinking. We’re looking for someone who questions things and asks why they have to be that way. As long as you’re curious and willing to learn, we’ll introduce you to new ways of working and thinking about things.

Benefits of working at AM

We’re a small team of forward-thinking people, all working together to delight our customers. If you choose to work for us, you will never be just a number. You’ll be an important part of a valued team.

We believe the little things matter, and small details can form the cornerstone of a great experience. For us, good coffee is a priority. We source ours locally for our staff and our clients to enjoy. And after speaking to business owners, we learned that they often saw visiting their accountant as being like going to the dentist, so we wanted to completely redesign that experience. We’ve created an office space that provides a creative and relaxed environment for our customers and our staff. There’s no suits and ties here and we’ll often enjoy a craft beer in the office on Friday afternoons. Taking a design-led approach has helped to shape the creative culture within our organisation. It is also a more rewarding place to work, boosting staff morale and productivity.

Who We Are / Our Why

You count, we count. At Ashton McGill, we take a human-centred approach to accounting and business growth, always putting our clients at the heart of everything we do. Our services are simple, smart & supportive— we speak to our clients in plain English, and in a language they understand. Accounting doesn’t have to be complicated— after speaking to business owners about what they would look for in an ideal accountant, we’ve used this feedback to shape the way our services are delivered. And we’re always looking for new ways to improve what we do to provide more value for our clients. That’s why we use a design-led approach to help us really get to know our customers, to understand their business better and how best to help them grow. Because when our clients are happy, we’re happy.
