Our Start-Up Plan
Real Business Experience
Think of us as part of your team. You don't need to hire a full-time bean counter when you've got us! We've run businesses ourselves, and still do, so we bring more perspective and commercial experience you won't find anywhere else.
Let's face it, everything is online nowadays, so it make sense that your accounts should be too. We'll help you choose the best software for your business, then set it up and show you how it works. All of which we'll do in plain English, jargon-free, so you'll understand exactly what's going on!
Support and Advice
Not sure about something? Need some advice on expenses or on pricing? As an Ashton McGill client, you'll have access to a range of business resources designed to make accounting and tax simple. You can also tweet us, give us a call, or drop in!
“Ashton McGill have been great for us in many ways. Not only have they kept us right in regards to compliance, but they have helped us understand how ‘business’ works. They have been instrumental in helping us grow with regular review meetings and by giving planning/strategy advice. They have sign posted us towards key people/organisations that we might not have come across otherwise. We envisage the team being with us as we grow and we look forward to an exciting future with them.”
Like the sound of this but want to know more? We thought so. We’ve answered some of the most commonly asked questions to help you.
What does 'compliance work' mean?
You’ll see a lot of accountants talk about doing ‘compliance work’. That’s their ham-fisted way of saying that they will ‘help’ you comply with your legal obligations to file accounts and tax returns. These things need to be done, and done well, but a modern accountant should be more proactive and helpful than that. It’s basically jargon, used by unhelpful bean-counters, who will be replaced by robots before too long.
What are my responsibilities?!
When you setup a Limited Company, you’ll typically take on three roles – shareholder, director & employee. Each of those carries different responsibilities. We’ll explain what those are in plain English and make sure you understand what you’re getting yourself into.
What expenses can I claim?!
We could write a whole website about expenses! The main thing to ask yourself is this – is the expense wholly, necessarily and exclusively for business purposes? If the answer to that question is yes, then you can claim it. If the answer is no, then you may still be able to claim for some of it. If you’re not sure, best give us a call.
Sole Trader or Limited Company?
The answer is….it depends! Sole Trader is usually the best option for someone starting out on their own, but there may be good reasons for using a Limited Company. During our Discovery Call we’ll ask a number of questions, which will help us advise you on what’s best for your own personal circumstances.
Can you help with monthly accounts?!
Yes! For many of our clients we play an active role in their business, helping with things like preparing monthly financial reports and presenting them at Board Meetings. Because we’ve a wealth of experience running businesses and we’re involved with a number of startups, we understand how they work and how to truly make an impact.
Can you help us raise finance when we grow?!
Yes! We’ve got a tonne of experience when it comes to raising finance. The market for funding has changed a lot over the past few years, but there’s still money out there to support the right businesses. We’ll help you craft a compelling proposition, and with us as your accountants they’ll be biting your hand off to give you money!
