ROLE PURPOSE
As a Senior Accountant at Ashton McGill, you’ll play a key role in supporting & advising our more complex clients. This role is designed for a qualified accountant who’s ready to take the next step: developing from a technically excellent accountant into a commercially minded advisor & future Ashton McGill Account Manager.
Over your first 6-12 months, you’ll deepen your technical expertise, take ownership of performance reporting & complex year-end work & receive structured training to build the commercial & soft skills required to lead impactful client relationships. You’ll own the numbers & learn to lead.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Client delivery.
Lead on management and performance reporting for complex client portfolios, including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and variance analysis.
Prepare and review year-end accounts under FRS 102A and FRS 105.
Oversee preparation of personal and corporate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK tax legislation.
Support clients with ad-hoc financial analysis and decision-support reporting.
Supervise junior team members, providing review feedback and guidance.
Advisory development.
Work closely with Account Managers to understand how advisory services are delivered in practice
Participate in board-level reporting, planning sessions, and strategy meetings to gain exposure to advisory work
Learn to interpret financial data to provide meaningful insights and practical recommendations for clients
Professional growth & training.
Take part in a structured 6-12 month development pathway that includes:
TECHNICAL TRAINING
Advanced financial analysis, systems integrations, and management reporting
COMMERCIAL TRAINING
Pricing, profitability, and value-based advisory skills
SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Communication, leadership, and relationship management
Progress to managing your own portfolio of clients as an Account Manager once training milestones are achieved.
About you.
Recently or newly qualified (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
Strong technical grounding across statutory accounts, tax, and management reporting
Comfortable working with current accounting tech (Xero experience is ideal)
Analytical thinker with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Keen to develop commercial and interpersonal skills to transition into a client advisory role
Confident collaborating with a team and communicating financial insights clearly and practically with clients
